I’m pleased to share with you my guest interview with Andrew Tisser, DO, podcast host of Talk2MeDoc. We discuss physician leadership in healthcare, different roles to explore, and the value of a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

I’m addressing the topic of a Chief Quality Officer (CQO) role in healthcare organizations. We will be discussing common prerequisites and skills and interests that would make you well suited. In addition, there is training that you may consider to prepare for and assume the role of a CQO.

Today my guest is Dr. Sunil Eappen, the Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts. Dr. Eappen is an obstetrical anesthesiologist by background and has served in numerous leadership roles in his career.

My guest, Laura Fortner, MD, is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Laura’s life changed with her involvement in a medical malpractice suit. A Certified Life Coach helped Laura to heal from this experience. This propelled her in a new direction, becoming a Certified Life Coach herself, in order to help physicians deal with the trauma of being involved in a malpractice suit.

My guest, Ronnie Shalev MD, BCMAS, shares her transition and transformation from her clinical roles into her current non-clinical activities. Ronnie has created a role for herself in a company that is not a healthcare provider, but provides service to physicians and healthcare organizations. She has also created a passive stream of income in real estate.

In this episode, I review the process and tools that you can use to make effective decisions. I provide examples of using a decision making process when you’re considering transitioning from clinical medicine at the bedside to a non-clinical role.
